Role Overview
Reporting directly to the Plant Manager, the Buyer independently manages procurement activities within the plant, adhering strictly to purchasing policies and procedures. The role entails decision-making on costs, timelines, and service quality with suppliers primarily focused on commodity buying, supplier management, and program support.
Key Responsibilities
- Execute commodity purchasing process including RFQ, negotiation, and cost analysis to ensure optimal pricing, quality, and delivery.
- Collaborate with global purchasing to target and achieve annual cost reduction goals (cost downs) via supplier negotiations and value analysis methodologies.
- Manage timely delivery and approval of PPAP parts, working closely with Supplier Quality Engineers.
- Oversee supplier purchase orders, administer quarterly aluminum, currency adjustments, and maintain supplier performance ratings.
- Maintain accurate tool management records, shot reports in coordination with suppliers, and compile annual tool replacement budgets with recommendations.
- Support new program launches with activities such as design reviews, engineering change requests, PPAP documentation, labeling, and packaging compliance.
- Assist engineering and quality departments with change management processes.
- Handle capital purchase initiatives and develop competitive tendering processes with multiple sourcing strategies, including auctions when necessary.
- Maintain vendor master records, manage supplier certifications including liability and WSIB, and ensure supplier compliance with corporate directives and anti-corruption policies.
- Provide support and development for indirect supply base relating to catalogue purchases and negotiate relevant contracts.
Time Allocation
- 30% - Support for new program launches
- 40% - Reporting, analysis, recommendations, and following up
- 10% - Leading cost reduction and value analysis projects
- 10% - Supplier relations and development
- 10% - Other assigned duties
Candidate Profile and Requirements
- Preferred college degree in manufacturing or mechanical engineering with at least four years' purchasing experience or equivalent.
- Professional designation such as Level III PMAC or equivalent is an advantage.
- Automotive purchasing background preferred.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with thorough knowledge of procurement systems and processes.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and comprehend cost factors in Aluminum Die Casting and Machining to accurately estimate and assess supplier quotations.
- Self-motivated team player capable of daily collaboration within Supply Chain Management and related departments.
- Experience partnering with business leaders to develop and execute global purchasing initiatives.
- High-level interpersonal and leadership skills, with capability to influence and coach across organizational levels and global locations.
- Ability to build and nurture effective teams.
- Knowledge of regulatory compliance and business acumen.
- Change management expertise and experience preferred with acquisition integrations.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and ERP systems, including Oracle.
