Job description

About the Role

An excellent career opportunity is available with a prominent company specializing in data centres and critical infrastructure, seeking an APAC Development Lead to join their expanding regional team. This pivotal position focuses on overseeing the early phases of data centre projects throughout the APAC region, blending engineering expertise, site development, and strategic project planning.

The role involves conducting thorough evaluations of new site prospects, assessing feasibility, infrastructure needs, utilities, and constructability, and formulating development strategies from inception.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead technical due diligence and feasibility studies for potential sites in the APAC region.
  • Evaluate constraints related to sites, such as infrastructure availability, utilities, accessibility, and readiness for development.
  • Contribute mechanical engineering expertise to early data centre concept designs.
  • Analyze critical infrastructure needs including power, water, and cooling systems.
  • Create preliminary engineering strategies, site planning concepts, and development methodologies.
  • Identify risks including technical, regulatory, and construction challenges, and propose mitigation plans.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including real estate, engineering, commercial, finance, and project execution groups on opportunity assessments.
  • Engage with utilities providers, consultants, government authorities, and other external partners to facilitate project progress.
  • Offer technical insights for site selection processes, investment decisions, and prioritization of projects.
  • Support transitions from early development stages into detailed design and construction phases.
  • Help foster growth of new data centre projects across various markets in APAC.

Candidate Profile

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
  • 5 to 8 years of relevant engineering experience, preferably within data centres, mission-critical infrastructure, or sizeable projects.
  • Strong foundation in mechanical engineering principles with specific knowledge of data centre infrastructure.
  • Experience conducting site assessments, technical due diligence, or initial project development.
  • Familiarity with utilities, infrastructure, or project development is beneficial.
  • Preferably experienced in working within various APAC markets.
  • Excellent analytical skills, communication capabilities, and experience managing stakeholder relationships.
  • Willingness to undertake regional travel as required.

The organization is open to developing a candidate who may not possess all these skills but demonstrates potential, providing training in market development, commercial aspects, utilities management, project planning, and stakeholder engagement.

Why Join?

This role goes beyond traditional engineering duties by involving the identification, evaluation, and realization of new data centre developments. It offers substantial regional exposure, collaboration with senior stakeholders, and a broad understanding of the entire data centre development life cycle. This opportunity represents significant career progression within a sector poised for growth due to substantial long-term investments.

If you are a Mechanical Engineer with experience in data centre environments seeking to advance your career into regional development, this role is an excellent fit.
