Visiting Faculty Position in Data Science

Overview

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at American University of Sharjah is inviting applications for a one-year visiting faculty appointment in Data Science starting in August 2026.

Research Focus

Candidates with academic and research interests in data science or data mining will be given consideration.

Required Qualifications

A PhD in Data Science, Statistics, or Mathematics must be completed by the start date of the appointment. Applicants are also expected to demonstrate strong teaching performance across all levels of the curriculum and excellent English communication skills.

Prior exposure to North American-style higher education is preferred and will strengthen an application.

Applicants must submit a complete application in two PDF files. The first should include a cover letter and a teaching statement. The second should include a curriculum vitae along with the contact information for three references. These referees should be able to write recommendation letters addressing both research and teaching capability.

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics offers a wide range of academic programs, including a Bachelor of Science in Data Science, a PhD in Mathematics, a Master of Science in Mathematics, a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics, and minors in applied mathematics, computational mathematics, actuarial mathematics, and data science. The department has 26 full-time faculty members who are active in research across different areas of mathematics and statistics. AUS is licensed and its academic programs are accredited by the Commission for Academic Accreditation of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research of the United Arab Emirates. The university has also held accreditation in the United States through the Middle States Commission on Higher Education since June 2004.
