Role overview
Babcock is seeking a Trade Assistant to join its fabrication team in Devonport, Auckland. This is a hands-on workshop role where you will contribute to a variety of fabrication tasks, including custom work and detailed repair jobs, while using modern tools and equipment in a safety-focused environment.

Pay and employment terms
- Hourly pay is NZD 30.
- Overtime is paid at 1.5 times the rate after 40 hours.
- Overtime is paid at 2 times the rate after 43 hours.

About you
The ideal candidate is a practical tradesperson who enjoys workshop-based work and takes pride in accuracy, safe practices, and quality finishes. You should be comfortable working with welding and cutting tools, reading technical information, and adapting to changing priorities while contributing positively to a team.
Skills and qualifications
Strong capability in MIG and TIG welding, fabrication machinery, hand tools, and interpreting technical drawings is important. You should also bring problem-solving ability, clear communication, strong attention to detail, and a solid understanding of health and safety expectations.
Trade certification in fabrication or welding is preferred. Relevant apprenticeship experience or comparable hands-on experience is also valued, along with familiarity with workshop safety requirements and the ability to operate welding and cutting equipment.
