Sports Coordinator

Role overview

The Sports Coordinator helps coaches plan and run sports sessions, training activities, and games. This position focuses on keeping sessions organized, preparing equipment, supporting participant supervision, maintaining safety, and contributing to a welcoming and energetic atmosphere.

Key responsibilities

• Support coaches while they conduct training sessions, matches, and other sports-related activities.
• Arrange and prepare equipment before each session, then store it properly afterward.
• Help supervise participants and assist in maintaining discipline during activities.
• Group participants into teams or activity batches as needed.
• Track attendance and help with registration duties when required.
• Keep equipment and facilities tidy, safe, and ready for use.
• Promote teamwork, fairness, and good sportsmanship among participants.
• Assist with warm-ups and cool-downs following the coach’s guidance.
• Immediately escalate any injury, incident, or safety issue to the coach or sports coordinator.
• Provide administrative support such as attendance logs and equipment records.
• Support sports competitions, tournaments, and special events.

Qualifications

A high school diploma or an equivalent qualification is expected. A bachelor’s degree in Physical Education, Sports Management, or a similar area is considered an added advantage. First Aid and CPR certification is preferred.

Experience

Prior exposure to sports, coaching, volunteering, or recreational activities is preferred, though it is not mandatory.

Skills and competencies

The ideal candidate should enjoy sports and be comfortable working with children and young people. Strong communication, interpersonal, teamwork, and collaboration skills are important, along with reliability, good organization, time management, and the ability to follow instructions. Basic awareness of sports rules and safety practices is useful, and the role requires physical stamina to help with activities and equipment.

Working conditions

This role is based in indoor sports facilities. It involves standing, walking, and taking part in physical activities for long periods.
