Role Overview
AbbVie is looking for a Senior Maintenance Engineer to join its engineering function in Carraigtwohill, Cork. Reporting to the Engineering Operations Manager, this position plays a key role in solving production-related technical issues, strengthening equipment reliability, supporting asset management, and advancing continuous improvement as well as energy and sustainability efforts. The role also contributes to manufacturing projects and helps maintain a compliant, efficient, and inspection-ready site.
Core Duties
- Serve as the subject matter expert for reliability engineering matters.
- Assist with everyday production challenges and support manufacturing project work.
- Investigate technical problems and implement practical, effective resolutions.
- Lead or support projects, training plans, and cross-training activities.
- Promote process enhancement initiatives and Kaizen activities.
- Work with EHS partners to uphold site safety standards.
- Oversee Engineering Change Control processes.
- Define and sustain reliability expectations for equipment, processes, systems, and utilities.
- Take part in root cause analyses and ensure corrective actions stop issues from repeating.
- Create technical improvement business cases using DMAIC or similar improvement methods.
- Strengthen maintenance systems and surface opportunities for operational improvement.
- Support energy management, sustainability, and asset lifecycle initiatives.
- Keep the MEP programme compliant with QA/EHSE requirements and ready for audits.
Requirements
- A Level 8 degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical/Process Engineering, or a closely related field.
- At least 5 years of experience in maintenance engineering within an FDA- or HPRA-regulated environment.
- Practical experience in a sterile fill facility.
- Solid understanding of cGMP and pharmaceutical regulatory expectations.
- Strong communication, problem-solving, decision-making, and stakeholder management abilities.
- Fluency in English.
- Competence with MS Word, Excel, Access, and Outlook.
