Overview

This is a strong opportunity for an experienced Senior HV Electrical Engineer to join an expanding team and help deliver advanced electrical design work on large infrastructure programmes. The role involves working closely with clients and other stakeholders in a fast-changing energy environment.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead the design and owner’s engineering input for high-voltage substations and grid expansion schemes.
  • Examine HV plant designs, covering arrangements, earthing, interlocking, and technical specifications.
  • Check detailed design outputs against project needs and compliance expectations.
  • Draft and assess technical documents such as schematics, single-line diagrams, and layout drawings.
  • Bring specialist knowledge of HV cables, substations, and overhead line systems.
  • Contribute across all stages of the project lifecycle.
  • Support new areas of work including energy storage and smart grid technologies.
  • Assist with tender submissions and preparation of technical proposals.

Requirements

  • A degree in Electrical Engineering, or a closely related field.
  • Chartered status is preferred, or active progress toward it.
  • Practical experience in HV substation design, particularly in the 110kV to 400kV range.
  • Good understanding of transmission and distribution standards.
  • Strong communication skills and confidence working with stakeholders.
  • Capability to take ownership of technical workstreams and guide delivery.
