Senior Aviation Engineer

Role overview

GHD is looking for a seasoned Senior Aviation Engineer to join its Aviation practice and help deliver aviation and civil infrastructure work that supports transport connectivity and economic growth. The role can be based in Auckland, Christchurch, or Hamilton.

You will work with a globally connected team of specialists on complex transport problems, contributing from early concept through delivery and beyond.

Core responsibilities

• Offer senior-level technical guidance and leadership to the Aviation team to help achieve strong project outcomes.
• Guide, coach, and support colleagues during project delivery and contribute to mentoring that builds capability and professional growth.
• Help strengthen GHD’s presence in the aviation market and support a long-term workload aligned with the business plan.
• Build and maintain productive relationships with clients, industry contacts, and key stakeholders.
• Work alongside internal teams and other service lines to create integrated solutions.
• Contribute to business development by spotting and pursuing strategic opportunities.
• Identify new markets, services, and opportunities, and help shape approaches to win future work.

What you need to bring

• A bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a closely related discipline.
• Between 10 and 15 years of experience in aviation or airport engineering consultancy.
• Hands-on experience supporting or leading the technical delivery of aviation projects.
• Formal training or qualifications in an engineering or science field relevant to the role.
• Strong commercial judgement and awareness of both internal and external business drivers.
• Clear verbal and written communication skills.
• A collaborative mindset with a willingness to share knowledge and support teammates.

Work model

This is a hybrid-style workplace. Team members are expected in the office three days per week to collaborate, connect, and work effectively, while retaining some flexibility.
