Key responsibilities

• Develop, organize, and expand online science communities, especially on Discord, by shaping channel setup, welcome journeys, bot usage, and engagement workflows.
• Plan and lead community activities such as AMAs, journal clubs, voice discussions, and other live online gatherings.
• Create and run programming that drives participation, showcases member research, and supports collaboration across the community.
• Spot relevant researchers, scientists, and emerging contributors and bring them into conversations that encourage learning and partnership.
• Keep discussions constructive, inclusive, and aligned with a high-quality community experience.
• Measure engagement, test new ideas, and refine community formats to improve participation and overall community health.

Candidate profile

The ideal candidate holds a bachelor’s or master’s degree in biology, biochemistry, biotechnology, or a closely related scientific discipline. Prior exposure to online communities such as Discord, Reddit, or X is important, and moderation experience is an advantage.

You should be a strong writer who can communicate in a friendly, clear, and approachable manner. Comfort with hosting live sessions, voice discussions, and interactive online events is also essential, along with solid planning skills and the ability to manage several initiatives at once.
