Production Manager

Role overview

The Production Manager will take ownership of daily manufacturing and operational activity, making sure output, quality, safety, and cost objectives are consistently delivered. The position has a strong leadership focus and plays an important part in improving performance through continuous improvement and operational excellence.

A major aspect of the role is to act as a driver of change: leading transformation efforts, introducing new working methods, and guiding teams through change so the business can perform at a higher level.

Key responsibilities

Operations management

• Direct the day-to-day running of production so delivery, quality, and output commitments are achieved.
• Make sure labour, equipment, and materials are used efficiently.
• Track production results and put corrective measures in place when performance slips.
• Keep operations aligned with health, safety, and quality requirements.

People leadership

• Lead, mentor, and build the capability of production teams to support strong performance.
• Handle workforce planning, shift scheduling, and performance management activities.
• Create a workplace culture that is positive, collaborative, and accountable.
• Encourage employee engagement and ongoing development.

Continuous improvement and change leadership

• Drive improvement programmes and act as a catalyst for change using approaches such as Lean, Six Sigma, and process optimisation.
• Support both organisational change and operational transformation initiatives.
• Promote an environment focused on innovation, flexibility, and ownership.
• Spot inefficiencies and introduce improvements that last.
• Influence and involve stakeholders at every level to secure successful adoption of change.

Performance and process management

• Define KPIs and review performance against agreed targets.
• Study production data to uncover trends, risks, and opportunities for improvement.
• Improve productivity while maintaining control of costs.
• Provide clear reporting and communication on operational performance.

Stakeholder management

• Work closely with Quality, Engineering, Supply Chain, and HR teams.
• Ensure production activity supports the wider business strategy.
• Share performance updates, risks, and improvement plans with senior leadership.
