Role overview
The National Heritage Board is looking for an experienced Paralegal to support its Legal Division in delivering reliable, timely, and high-quality legal assistance. Reporting to the Senior Legal Counsel, this role combines legal research, contract support, records administration, and coordination work. You will also help address public queries related to the use of Singapore’s National Symbols.
Key responsibilities
- Carry out legal research on statutes, regulations, and case law to support the Legal Division’s work.
- Review and proofread basic legal documents such as memorandums of understanding, loan agreements, addenda, gift agreements, and contest terms and conditions.
- Maintain, organise, and update legal files, documents, and records, and compile divisional statistics for reporting.
- Provide administrative support to the Legal Unit, including archiving, preparing templates, arranging external legal services, coordinating with law firms on invoicing, and processing claims.
- Prepare presentation materials for internal and external meetings.
- Respond to enquiries from the public about the use of Singapore’s National Symbols.
What the employer is looking for
The preferred candidate should hold at least a Diploma or Degree in Law, Legal Studies, or Paralegal Studies, and ideally bring around 5 years of relevant experience. Hands-on exposure to drafting and reviewing commercial contracts is important, and experience with government procurement work will be considered an advantage.
Skills and competencies
You should have strong written and spoken English, be comfortable using Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel, and demonstrate excellent organisation, communication, and interpersonal abilities. Attention to detail, the capacity to multitask, and the ability to work effectively in a team and in a fast-paced setting are also essential. An interest in the visual arts, museums, and cultural heritage will be useful in this role.
