Role overview

Infleqtion is hiring a Mechanical Engineer II to contribute to the mechanical design of the QGG program. This position is centered on creating CAD models, producing release-ready drawings, supporting tooling and fixtures, and owning low-complexity parts. It suits an engineer who enjoys turning engineering direction into practical hardware, buildable designs, and clean documentation that helps move a sophisticated aerospace quantum payload through integration.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and update CAD models and mechanical drawings for QGG components, including tooling, fixtures, brackets, covers, adapters, and simple assemblies.
• Assist with opto-mechanical, structural, thermal/mechanical, APPSH build, and AI&T tooling work as directed by senior engineers and IPT leads.
• Prepare drawing packages with proper dimensions, tolerances, material specs, surface finishes, notes, and inspection-critical features.
• Use GD&T and tolerance analysis appropriate to the part’s purpose and the chosen manufacturing method.
• Design with manufacturability, assembly, inspection, cleanliness, handling, and integration constraints in mind.
• Coordinate with vendors and internal stakeholders to answer drawing questions and resolve fabrication, fit, and function issues.
• Participate in design reviews, peer reviews, drawing release, engineering change orders, and configuration control updates.
• Produce basic analyses, hand calculations, or engineering justification to back up design decisions.
• Provide practical support during build, fit checks, troubleshooting, and lab/shop/AI&T activities.
• Record design choices and open issues clearly so senior owners can make timely decisions.

Required qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a closely related technical discipline.
• At least 2 years of experience in mechanical design, with CAD modeling and production-quality mechanical drawing work.
• Hands-on experience using SolidWorks or a comparable CAD platform.
• Working understanding of GD&T, engineering drawings, tolerance fundamentals, material choice, and manufacturing methods.
• Ability to design straightforward tooling, fixtures, brackets, adapters, and low-complexity mechanical parts with minimal rework.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to follow technical direction and complete actions dependably.
• Comfort working directly with hardware in laboratory, shop, or integration environments.

Preferred experience

• Prior work with PDM/PLM release workflows and engineering change orders.
• Exposure to aerospace, optical, vacuum, laser, or precision electromechanical hardware.
• Experience creating assembly or alignment tooling, inspection fixtures, environmental test fixtures, or handling equipment.
• Basic familiarity with FEA, thermal or structural hand calculations, or tolerance analysis.

Compensation and benefits

The expected annual base salary range for this role is $120,000 to $160,000, along with eligibility for the company’s annual incentive plan.

Working conditions

Work is generally performed in office, laboratory, production, and integration/test settings. The role may involve exposure to lasers, high-voltage equipment, vacuum hardware, precision mechanical assemblies, electronics, clean hardware, and test equipment. Required protective equipment will be provided and must be used according to company policy.
