Role overview
HSBC is seeking an experienced professional for the position of Manager, Model Validation in Kolkata, West Bengal, India. This role sits within a global banking and financial services organization operating across 64 countries and territories, with a focus on helping businesses grow and economies progress. The position is designed for someone who can contribute to model risk oversight in a large and complex banking environment while major transformation work is underway.
Key responsibilities
- Plan the validation approach for more experienced reviewers, including foundational work needed for independent assessments of simple models or specific parts of more complex models in line with the Global Model Risk Policy.
- Review model inputs, calculations, and reporting outputs to assess their quality and reliability.
- Evaluate whether the model’s theory is conceptually sound and whether the model is appropriate for its intended use.
- Check the completeness and relevance of data, qualitative inputs, judgments, documentation, and implementation details used in the model.
- Contribute to and participate in discussions with model developers and business stakeholders, with guidance from senior colleagues.
- Support the review of remediation actions completed by the first line of defense to confirm that identified issues have been properly addressed.
- Help manage model risk across a large, complex banking group during periods of significant change and transformation.
What you need to succeed
- Working knowledge of risk models, performance measures, and the associated risk issues.
- Awareness of internal model-related procedures is considered beneficial.
- Ability to keep pace with industry practices, academic research, and evolving regulatory expectations in model risk management.
- A bachelor’s or master’s degree in a quantitative discipline such as Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, Engineering, Finance, or a closely related field.
- Strong capability in statistical modelling and advanced quantitative techniques.
- Hands-on familiarity with programming and analytical tools such as Python, SAS, R, and C++.
