Role summary
This position is focused on keeping Control & Instrumentation (C&I) systems highly available and dependable for the Ash Handling Plant (AHP) and water treatment systems. The role covers regular maintenance, system backups, technical audits, contractor coordination, budget control and continuous improvement to ensure safe and efficient plant operations.
Key responsibilities
You will lead field instrumentation activities for the AHP and water circuit within the Balance of Plant (BoP) area. The role includes maintaining the reliability of C&I systems, preventing breakdowns through planned maintenance, and safeguarding PLC data through scheduled backups.
- Ensure uninterrupted operation and dependable performance of C&I systems for AHP and water treatment equipment, including analysers.
- Plan and execute preventive maintenance to reduce failures and support stable plant performance.
- Carry out routine PLC backups to protect data and minimize downtime risk.
- Oversee calibration of weighbridges and road weighbridges so readings remain accurate and compliant.
- Coordinate with contract manpower for site-level maintenance work on AHP and water systems.
- Support root cause analysis, failure mode and effects analysis, and zero forced outage initiatives to improve system reliability.
- Apply Management of Change processes for safe, controlled modifications to systems and equipment.
- Estimate C&I system requirements for budget preparation and planning.
- Manage spares and inventory, including creating indigenous alternatives where useful for cost savings.
- Maintain section documentation and as-built drawings.
- Implement IMS, AWMS, DISHA and CHETNA practices to support sustainability goals.
- Build the capability of contract supervisors and technicians through knowledge sharing and coaching.
- Protect people and equipment by enforcing safety practices, training, and permit-to-work discipline.
- Strengthen ZFO-related field practices to reduce human error and improve operational excellence.
- Maintain strong working knowledge of PLC systems for AHP and water treatment applications.
- Manage contractor safety and oversee business associates working under the department.
- Ensure compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements.
- Drive digitization, automation, and system/process improvements by adopting newer technologies and practical innovations.
Stakeholders
Internal stakeholders include Operations & Maintenance, Security and Stores. External coordination is expected with vendors.
Qualifications and experience
A bachelor’s degree in C&I, Electronics & Communication, or an equivalent qualification is required. The role calls for at least 6 years of experience in control and instrumentation, preferably in a power plant or heavy industry environment. Exposure to power generation and BoP systems such as coal handling plants, water treatment plants, ash handling plants, CCTV, PA systems and FDA systems is preferred.
