IT Infrastructure Specialist

Role overview

The IT Infrastructure Specialist will own the planning, setup, operation, and upkeep of the company’s on-site technology environment. This position is focused on keeping servers, storage, networks, and data center services stable, secure, high-performing, and available to support day-to-day business needs.

What you will do

• Plan, deploy, and support on-premises infrastructure across servers, storage, virtualization, and data center systems.
• Install, set up, and administer both physical and virtual servers running Windows and Linux.
• Operate and maintain virtualization platforms such as VMware, Hyper-V, or comparable tools.
• Track infrastructure health, including performance, capacity, and uptime.
• Build and manage backup, recovery, restore, and disaster recovery arrangements.
• Carry out security hardening, apply patches, and keep systems updated.
• Investigate infrastructure issues and perform root-cause analysis when incidents occur.
• Oversee infrastructure-related network elements such as switches, firewalls, and connectivity.
• Assist with hardware refreshes, upgrades, and lifecycle planning.
• Keep technical documentation, diagrams, and standard operating procedures current.
• Work with external vendors and service partners for support and maintenance needs.
• Ensure infrastructure work aligns with IT standards, security requirements, and established best practices.

Required background and skills

• Solid hands-on experience in on-premises server and data center environments.
• Working knowledge of Windows Server and/or Linux administration.
• Practical experience with virtualization technologies, especially VMware or Hyper-V.
• Understanding of storage platforms, backup methods, and disaster recovery practices.
• Good grasp of networking fundamentals and infrastructure security concepts.
• Strong troubleshooting ability, analytical thinking, and documentation discipline.

Qualifications

A bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a closely related discipline is required.

The role calls for 4 to 7 years of experience in infrastructure or systems administration.

Professional certifications are beneficial, including Microsoft Windows Server credentials, VMware VCP, and Linux certifications.

Experience in hybrid environments will be considered an added advantage.
