EIS Teacher Assistant

Role overview

Reporting to the English International Stream (EIS) Coordinator, the Kindergarten Teaching Assistant supports classroom teachers in caring for young children, helping keep the learning environment safe, clean, and well organised. The role is hands-on and closely involved in the day-to-day rhythm of the classroom, from preparing activities to supporting children’s well-being and supervision.

Main mission

• Promote children’s physical, emotional, and social well-being throughout the school day.
• Work with teachers during lessons, routines, and classroom transitions.
• Help prepare and arrange materials needed for learning experiences.
• Contribute to inquiry-based projects, including leading selected workshops or atelier activities.
• Keep children safe and under supervision at all times.
• Help maintain tidy, clean, and organised classrooms, shared areas, and equipment.
• Collaborate with teachers and school staff in alignment with the school’s educational values and expectations.
• Participate as a team member in supporting the launch and growth of the EIS.

Responsibilities

• Oversee children during drop-off and pick-up times.
• Support personal care routines, including toilet support, handwashing supervision, and other assistance when needed.
• Help children during meals and snack breaks.
• Sort, organise, and manage pupils’ materials and work supplies.
• Clean, organise, and store classroom and school equipment appropriately.
• Keep classrooms and common spaces clean and orderly during the school day.
• Supervise children during workshops, library visits, celebrations, and school events.
• Accompany children on outings and excursions such as walks, visits, and performances.
• Prepare learning materials and resources for classroom activities.
• Monitor children during break times, canteen periods, rest or nap periods, and transport arrival/departure.
• Assist children with changing clothes when needed.
• Take on other related duties assigned by the EIS Coordinator or school leadership.
• Support EIS open house events and parent tours when required.

Requirements

• Prior experience supporting young children between 2 and 5 years old.
• A diploma or equivalent qualification in early childhood education is an advantage.
• Ability to work well within a classroom team.
• Good judgement, professionalism, and discretion when dealing with children and families.
• Ability to take initiative and work with a degree of independence within the teaching team’s framework.
• Energetic, positive, and engaged attitude in day-to-day work with young children.
• Understanding of food hygiene and safety rules, with willingness to follow them carefully.
• Comfort working in an English-speaking environment.
• Some practical English communication ability and openness to building confidence in daily classroom use of English.
