Data Science Intern

Role overview

This internship is for a student who wants practical exposure to data-driven problem solving. The role focuses on preparing datasets, exploring patterns in data, and supporting simple modelling work using Python, SQL, and real business data.

What you will do

• Gather data from multiple sources, then clean, structure, and organize it for analysis.
• Explore datasets to uncover trends, patterns, and issues related to data quality.
• Use basic SQL to pull, filter, and reshape data for downstream analysis.
• Ready datasets for dashboards, reports, and machine learning trials.
• Support the creation and review of simple statistical or machine learning models with supervision.
• Build charts, concise summaries, and documentation that make findings easy to understand.
• Use Python to automate recurring data preparation or reporting tasks where suitable.
• Record assumptions, data definitions, and analysis steps so they can be reviewed and reused.

Requirements

• Must currently be studying for a degree or diploma in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, Business Analytics, or a similar discipline.
• Working knowledge of Python and SQL, with the confidence to use both in a business context.
• Basic understanding of data cleaning, exploratory analysis, and fundamental statistics.
• Comfortable working with spreadsheets and structured data.
• Strong eye for detail when validating data accuracy and assumptions.
• Able to communicate results clearly and ask questions when requirements or data are not fully defined.
• Self-driven, curious, and open to learning from feedback.

Preferred exposure

Experience with libraries such as pandas, NumPy, scikit-learn, matplotlib, or similar tools is an advantage. Familiarity with basic machine learning ideas like regression, classification, clustering, or model evaluation is also helpful. Exposure to tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or Python-based visualization libraries, plus a basic understanding of Git or version control, would be beneficial. Interest in using data science for business, customer, network, operations, or digital applications is a plus.
