Role overview

This position is for a data analyst focused on spotting, examining, and documenting abuse, misuse, and policy breaches across GitHub Copilot and other AI-enabled developer products. The work centers on converting telemetry, account-level indicators, and product usage information into insights that support detection, policy, and enforcement decisions.

You will work in a remote role based in Ontario, Canada, and collaborate with teams across Trust & Safety, Product, Engineering, Security, and Legal to understand abuse patterns and improve the platform’s protections.

What you will do

  • Review telemetry, usage logs, billing and entitlement information, and account signals to uncover abuse patterns such as scripted use, account or credential sharing, token misuse, evasion of limits, prompt injection, policy violations, and coordinated or fraudulent activity.
  • Create dashboards, reports, and prototype analytical models that help teams assess legitimate usage versus abuse and measure how mitigation efforts are performing.
  • Translate complex findings into clear recommendations through dashboards, written summaries, and presentations that guide detection rules, policy changes, and enforcement decisions.
  • Spot gaps in abuse-related data, suggest new data pipelines or integrations, and partner with Engineering and Data Science to strengthen the signals used for detection.
  • Assess assumptions and methods carefully, including risks such as false positives, false negatives, and unintended effects on valid users, and propose ways to reduce those risks.
  • Convert ad hoc investigations into repeatable reporting and self-serve analysis where appropriate, helping scale recurring monitoring.
  • Work across Trust & Safety, Copilot Product, Anti-Abuse Engineering, Security, Data Science, and CELA to align on definitions, abuse categories, and shared standards.
  • Handle sensitive Copilot prompt, completion, and user-activity data with strong attention to privacy, governance, ethics, and required CELA review.
  • Share domain knowledge, mentor junior analysts, and present findings to senior leaders in Copilot, Trust & Safety, and Security.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of experience in data analysis and reporting, data science, business intelligence, or business/financial analysis; or a bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Analytics, Data Science, Engineering, Computer Science, Business, Economics, or a related discipline plus 3+ years in one of those areas; or equivalent experience.
  • Preferred profile includes 7+ years of relevant experience, or a bachelor’s/master’s degree in a related field with 5+/3+ years of experience respectively.
  • Hands-on experience with SQL, Python, Power BI, or similar analytics tools for at least 1 year is preferred.
  • 2+ years of consulting experience is preferred.
  • Background in analyzing abuse, fraud, or Trust & Safety signals on a large online platform, ideally for AI/ML products or AI developer tools, is preferred.
  • Familiarity with common abuse behaviors on developer platforms, including scripted usage, account sharing, limit evasion, prompt injection, and policy violations.
  • Experience working with Trust & Safety, Anti-Abuse, Security, and Legal partners on sensitive investigations is preferred.
