Role Overview

The organization is looking for a detail-focused Construction Estimator to strengthen its bidding and proposal efforts. This position combines estimating, tender review, client communication, and proposal coordination. The successful candidate will identify opportunities, manage bid responses, and produce accurate pricing for both supply and erection work, along with related building components.

The job also includes a technical estimating and design support element. You will review architectural and early-stage drawings, complete material take-offs, and help create preliminary building configurations using supplier design tools and established pre-engineered metal building methods.

Key Responsibilities

• Build thorough cost estimates and proposals for metal building supply, erection services, and related items such as snow retention systems, cladding, insulation, liners, roofing panels, and insulated metal panels.
• Review drawings and specifications, complete material take-offs, and support early building layout development and design assumptions based on project needs and standard PEMB practices.
• Use supplier estimating and design software to create preliminary building setups, assess design alternatives, and support accurate pricing and proposal preparation.
• Search for and pursue public and private tenders, including RFPs, RFQs, and unsolicited bid opportunities for supply and/or erection work.
• Examine procurement documents, pull out the essential requirements, and prepare brief leadership summaries.
• Keep bid deadlines, requirements, and results well organized and tracked.
• Coordinate the transfer of awarded erection projects to the internal project manager, making sure all supporting information is complete and organized.
• Develop and maintain relationships with current and potential clients, including participation in networking activities and communication with engineers, drafters, detailers, and supplier sales teams.
• Follow up on estimates in a timely manner and maintain regular contact with key accounts.
• Answer incoming calls and requests related to estimates and proposals promptly.
• Support additional proposal and bid-related tasks as needed.

Required Skills and Qualifications

• Working knowledge of pre-engineered metal building systems.
• Background in construction estimating and/or bid coordination.
• Ability to interpret architectural, structural, and tender drawings and specifications, and apply practical PEMB and construction knowledge during estimating.
• Experience with material take-offs, preliminary layouts, or PEMB design software is a strong advantage.
• Commercial awareness and the ability to understand client challenges and recommend suitable solutions.
• Strong written and spoken communication abilities.
• Excellent relationship-building skills and confidence when dealing with clients.
• Good command of Microsoft Office, especially Excel, plus general business software; proposal management tools are an added asset.
• CAD-related experience is beneficial, including tools such as Navisworks, BIM, BIM 3D modelling, SketchUp, and other visualization platforms.
• Experience with Bluebeam.
• Comfort using or developing skills in AI-based take-off tools, document scanning tools, and similar applications.
• Strong planning, organization, and time management capabilities.
• Ability to review complex documents and extract the important points clearly.
• Self-driven, flexible, and comfortable in a fast-paced, growth-focused workplace.

Compensation

Salary is offered at CA$65,000 to CA$85,000 per year.
