One New Zealand is working toward a more connected Aotearoa New Zealand, with an ambition to become the world’s most AI-enabled telecom provider. The organisation is investing heavily in its people, offering learning resources, growth pathways, and an environment that supports curiosity, development, and leadership. The culture is built around people, inclusion, and doing work that has a meaningful impact.
Role overview
As the Cloud Applications QA Automation Engineer, you will be accountable for the quality, reliability, and performance of the NaaS, xVNE, Launchpad platforms, and related supporting systems, including OCS. The position combines automation engineering with hands-on quality assurance, ensuring testing is effective across the delivery lifecycle.
You will create and maintain automated frameworks and test cases based on user stories and business needs, and you will also carry out manual testing when needed to achieve complete coverage. Working alongside DevOps, development, QA, network, and business stakeholders, you will help embed quality into every stage of delivery.
The role also involves using AI-enabled tools and modern testing practices to improve test creation, defect detection, coverage, speed, and delivery outcomes, while maintaining accuracy, security, and compliance with organisational standards.
Key responsibilities
- Build, evolve, and support robust automated test frameworks and scripts for scalable testing across cloud-based applications.
- Convert user stories, acceptance criteria, and technical specifications into detailed test scenarios and test cases.
- Run automated and manual tests to check functionality, integrations, and end-to-end data movement.
- Confirm that defect fixes, enhancements, and new features meet quality expectations and do not create regressions.
- Provide strong coverage across functional, integration, regression, and data validation testing.
- Use AI-enabled tools and automation approaches to strengthen test design, speed up execution, and improve defect analysis.
- Support release readiness activities, including pre-production validation and post-deployment checks.
- Work closely with developers, QA, network, and business teams to maintain quality throughout the development lifecycle.
- Track test outcomes, assess defects, and share clear status updates and insights with stakeholders.
- Improve testing methods, frameworks, and tooling to increase reliability, speed, and overall software quality.
- Maintain and enhance CI/CD integrations so automated tests run effectively within continuous delivery pipelines.
Requirements
- Hands-on experience with test automation tools and frameworks, including API, UI, and data testing.
- Ability to create test cases from user stories and acceptance criteria.
- Solid understanding of software development principles and the SDLC.
- Practical knowledge of at least one programming or scripting language such as Golang, Python, or JavaScript for automation and tooling.
- Experience with data extraction, SQL, and reporting.
- Strong customer orientation and stakeholder management ability.
- Excellent written and spoken communication skills.
- Working familiarity with AI-assisted tools for code generation, analysis, monitoring, or reporting.
- Ability to use AI to improve productivity, data validation, and operational efficiency.
- Mindset for identifying repeatable work that can be automated and for improving workflows.
- Telecommunications industry knowledge is advantageous.
Benefits
- Flexible working options are available in many roles, including the ability to work from home and adjust hours around work and whānau commitments.
- Fully subsidised Southern Cross health insurance for you and your family.
- Lifestyle leave, with the option to buy an additional one or two weeks of annual leave.
- Discounts on One New Zealand products, services, and more.
