Its culture is built around safety and wellbeing, innovation, integrity, collaboration, courage, agility, accountability, and diversity and inclusion.

With a team of more than 600 people across Ireland and the UK, the company is continuing to expand across multiple disciplines to support its growth plans.

Role overview

As a Civil Engineer Intern, you will join a multidisciplinary engineering team supporting water and wastewater projects from the design stage through completion and handover to the client. This placement is intended to help you learn from experienced project teams while working in a collaborative one-team environment and strengthening both technical and professional capabilities.

Working under the direction of senior colleagues, you will contribute to day-to-day project activity, gain exposure to engineering design and site operations, and build an understanding of how projects are estimated, planned, and delivered. Because the work is varied, you will experience different civil engineering tasks and gain practical insight into both the technical and on-site sides of the profession.

The placement is designed to support your development so that you can return to university with greater knowledge and experience. Interns who perform well may also be considered for the company’s Graduate Programme after completing their degree, creating a route for continued career progression.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute as part of a project team and help deliver active projects in a collaborative one-team culture.
  • Assist in promoting health, safety, environmental, and sustainability standards, policies, and site procedures.
  • Develop basic setting-out skills while working under supervision.
  • Gain hands-on exposure to laser levels and dumpy levels.
  • Build familiarity with BIM/Revit and learn introductory drafting techniques.
  • Learn how to read rebar details and construction drawings with support from senior engineers.
  • Carry out basic concrete quality control activities, including slump checks, cube sampling, proper curing, and result recording.
  • Develop understanding of water and wastewater treatment processes, including modular package treatment plant fabrication.
  • Keep learning about current industry standards and technologies through mentoring and ongoing development.
  • Support site teams with health and safety tasks such as inductions, statutory inspections, record keeping, and data collection.
  • Show initiative, a willingness to learn, and commitment to professional development and future career goals.
  • Take on additional tasks and learning opportunities as needed to support the team and project requirements.

Requirements

  • Current enrolment in a Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related degree programme.
  • Must be returning to college or university after the placement; this is a structured placement, not a graduate position.
  • Strong academic background with an interest in gaining practical, on-site engineering experience.
  • Genuine enthusiasm for learning and applying engineering knowledge in real projects.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to work well in a professional setting.
  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Exposure to AutoCAD or similar software is beneficial but not required.
  • Willingness to work on site and adapt to a fast-moving project environment.
  • Commitment to high standards in health, safety, environment, and sustainability.
