Carpenter

Role Overview

The carpenter will build, repair, adapt, and modify wooden structural items used in collapsible hard- and soft-shelter systems for departmental work centers. The role also requires adherence to the Performance Work Statement (PWS) and the Amentum ISO 9001 Quality Management System.

Key Duties

• Take measurements, mark materials, and cut boards to the required dimensions using a ruler, pencil, and power saws.
• Join and secure boards with a hammer, power stapler, or nail gun.
• Restore damaged containers by replacing broken components with hand tools.
• Recover reusable crating by pulling nails from boards with a hammer, nail puller, or crowbar, and trimming ends with a portable electric handsaw.
• Support maintenance and repair work on aluminum prefabricated shelter structures, including assembly, disassembly, and preservation/crating of components.
• Run woodworking equipment such as cross saws, bench saws, planers, band saws, routers, power planers, and related trade hand tools.
• Maintain workshop tools and machinery, including sharpening saw blades using hand files or powered tools.
• Keep issued tools, personal protective equipment, and clothing in safe, secure, and serviceable condition, and report any defects.
• Prepare and complete records in Maximo.
• Inspect hazardous materials in the assigned work center and coordinate disposal with the relevant office when needed.
• Carry out additional tasks assigned by Amentum/USAF direction.
• Assist other departments when asked to complete a specific task or project.
• Perform other skilled or unskilled duties as directed by the supervisor.
• Complete temporary duty travel in the area of operations when required by USAF/Amentum tasking.
• Follow Amentum/USAF standards for safety, hazardous materials, and quality.
• Help erect, build, and operate BEAR Base shelter systems and related equipment for real-world exercises and contingency support.
• Work in a maintenance shop or warehouse setting, and be prepared to work outdoors for long periods.

Requirements

• Organized and able to understand, speak, read, and write English at a beginner level.
• Able to read and interpret technical information, measurements, and engineering drawings related to construction and repairs of portable boxes, containers, building facilities, Civil Engineering instructions, and BEAR Base assets/equipment.
• Must hold a valid home-country driving licence and be eligible to obtain a host-nation driving licence.
• Expected to operate material handling equipment.
• High school diploma or an equivalent qualification is required.
• At least 5 years of military or civilian carpentry experience, or experience in structural/facilities maintenance, is required.
• May be exposed to very high noise levels from operating equipment.
• Must wear the required PPE as per procedures and task-specific needs.
• Physically able to perform all duties, including lifting, pushing, and pulling at least 50 lbs and handling equipment extensively.
• Must be available for domestic and international travel.

Preferred Qualifications

• Formal carpenter certification from a military or civilian technical training program is an advantage.
• Practical experience with Harvest Falcon, Eagle, and BEAR assets is preferred.

This position involves compliance with workplace safety, hazardous material handling, and quality requirements. Work may include temporary duty assignments and support for operational exercises and contingencies.
