Role overview

V!VA Retirement Communities is assembling the launch team for V!VA Leaside, a luxury retirement residence in Toronto scheduled to open in 2026. This role is designed for a service-oriented driver who enjoys meaningful work with seniors and wants to help shape an exceptional resident experience from the start.

As part of the environmental team, the Bus Driver will report to the Lifestyle Manager and help ensure safe, comfortable, and reliable transportation for community members. The position calls for a dependable professional who brings strong customer service, cares about safety, and is comfortable working in a people-first retirement community.

Key responsibilities

• Drive community members to and from destinations using a prearranged route and schedule.
• Take responsibility for passenger safety during loading, unloading, and transportation.
• Secure wheelchairs, mobility aids, and accessibility equipment properly on the bus.
• Operate the vehicle safely and in line with road traffic laws and safety standards.
• Maintain operational logs and prepare straightforward reports when needed.
• Adjust heating and ventilation systems to keep passengers comfortable.
• Oversee the care and upkeep of the bus and ensure it follows scheduled maintenance.
• Understand and apply emergency and evacuation procedures.
• Follow company policies, including rules on mobile device use, smoking in vehicles, and banned equipment such as game consoles while on duty.
• Promptly report driving, safety, security, and customer service incidents to the Lifestyle Manager using the required reporting process.
• Take part in all pre-opening and post-opening training opportunities and look for ways to keep learning and contributing.
• Set the standard for excellent customer service across the community.
• Handle other assigned tasks as required.

Qualifications

• Practical understanding of safe and efficient motor vehicle operation.
• Knowledge of traffic and highway safety rules.
• Valid Class F driver’s licence.
• At least 5 years of verifiable driving experience.
• Clean driving history, with no driving conviction in the past 15 years.
• Ability to operate lift equipment and secure wheelchairs and mobility devices correctly.
• Physical ability to bend, stretch, sit, and stand for long periods, and to lift up to 50 lbs.
• Availability for flexible schedules, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• Strong people skills and comfort working with older adults.
• Current CPR and first aid certification.
• Ability to communicate clearly in spoken and written English.

Workplace and hiring details

The role is based in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, and is onsite. Successful candidates must provide proof that they are eligible to work in Canada for the next 6 months.
