Role overview
This full-time role is based in Richardson, Texas, and is expected to be performed entirely from the office to match team needs. The schedule may include evening or overnight coverage, with shifts such as 3:00 PM to 12:00 AM or 11:00 PM to 8:00 AM.
The Associate Data Center Hardware Engineer is a practical, hands-on position focused on keeping large-scale infrastructure dependable and performing well. The role involves repairing failed hardware, handling advanced technical troubleshooting, supporting contracted technicians as an escalation contact, and working with vendors and internal engineering teams to maintain consistent service across data center operations.
Key duties
- Carry out break-fix work on servers and network equipment, such as replacing damaged drives, DIMMs, fans, power supplies, and similar components.
- Investigate and resolve issues escalated by contracted technicians, using diagnostics and passing unresolved cases to Data Center Hardware Engineers or internal engineering teams when required.
- Install SSDs and NVMe drives in existing servers.
- Perform basic troubleshooting on Linux operating systems and IPMI interfaces across server platforms.
- Support engineers with diagnosing and fixing autobuild or Linux Kickstart failures, including straggler nodes.
- Identify and correct physical-layer network connectivity problems.
- Handle hardware installations and repairs that fall outside planned quarterly organic growth projects.
- Watch the Jira queue closely and ensure tickets are handled correctly and resolved to a high standard by contracted technicians.
- Help onboard newly contracted data center technicians and train them on day-to-day work.
- Act as a technical guide for contract technicians by coaching them to improve quality and consistency.
- Take part in an on-call rotation supporting global data center operations.
Experience and qualifications
The minimum requirement is at least 1 year of experience in a data center engineering role, along with 1 year each of Linux troubleshooting and server hardware troubleshooting. A bachelor’s degree is preferred, or equivalent industry experience. Stronger qualifications include 2 or more years in a data center engineering role, 2 or more years of Linux troubleshooting, and 2 or more years of server hardware troubleshooting.
Compensation and benefits
The salary range for this position is between $74,000 and $122,000 per year. Actual pay may vary based on factors such as skills, depth of experience, certifications, and the specific work location. The overall package may also include an annual performance bonus, stock, benefits, and/or other incentive compensation plans.
