Role overview

ChildVision is looking for a motivated and forward-thinking Assistive Technology Trainer to support people with visual impairments in building the skills and confidence they need to succeed at work.

In this position, you will provide tailored assistive technology coaching to employees in the social enterprise. You will work with people who have varied educational backgrounds, different learning preferences, and a range of support needs, helping them use technology in a way that improves independence, participation, and workplace success.

The role calls for solid technical understanding, strong people skills, and a genuine commitment to accessibility, inclusion, and person-centred support. Applicants with lived experience of disability are especially encouraged to apply.

This post is partly supported through the Department of Rural and Community Development’s Community Services Programme, which helps create employment opportunities for people with visual impairments and other disabilities.

Training and coaching

  • Provide one-to-one and small-group training in assistive technology for employees across the social enterprise.
  • Offer coaching that is tailored to each employee’s learning goals, capabilities, and workplace needs.
  • Identify assistive technology requirements and create suitable learning plans and support approaches.
  • Teach employees how to use assistive tools, accessibility features, and adaptive software relevant to their work.
  • Help employees strengthen confidence, independence, and digital capability in the workplace.

Ongoing support and development

  • Deliver day-to-day technical help, problem-solving, and workplace adjustments when needed.
  • Track learner progress and adjust training methods to achieve the best outcomes.
  • Keep clear records of training completed, progress made, achievements, and support given.
  • Help develop, review, and refresh training plans, task analyses, and learning materials.
  • Stay current with assistive technology trends, accessibility tools, and inclusive training practices.

Collaboration and teamwork

  • Work closely with the CanDo team and other colleagues to improve training methods and learning resources.
  • Take part in team meetings, service planning, and professional development activities.
  • Share regular updates and reports with the Social Enterprise Manager.
  • Help promote inclusive hiring and accessibility throughout the organisation.

Essential requirements

  • Background in delivering training, teaching, tutoring, coaching, or learning support, preferably in technology or assistive technology settings.
  • Strong working knowledge of assistive technology, accessibility tools, and software used by people with visual impairments.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and relationship-building abilities.
  • Ability to adjust teaching and coaching styles for different learning preferences and support requirements.
  • Good planning and time-management skills, with the ability to work independently.
  • Strong commitment to inclusion, accessibility, and person-centred practice.
  • Patient, empathetic, and team-oriented approach.

Desirable experience

  • Experience supporting people who are blind or vision impaired.
  • Experience delivering training or coaching in a workplace setting.
  • Familiarity with screen readers, magnification tools, voice recognition software, and accessible digital tools.
  • Experience supporting people with disabilities in employment, education, or community environments.
  • Relevant qualification in education, assistive technology, disability studies, information technology, training, or a related area.

Additional requirements

  • You must be eligible to work in Ireland.
  • Appointment is subject to satisfactory reference checks and Garda Vetting clearance.
  • You must be available to attend interviews in person.
