Role Overview

An opportunity has opened for an enthusiastic and capable Assistant Psychologist to join the Orthopaedic Psychological Support Team within Cambridgeshire and Peterborough NHS Foundation Trust (CPFT). This is a secondment or fixed-term appointment supporting children, young people, adults, families, and staff affected by an orthopaedic incident and the continuing clinical review of the surgeon’s practice.

The position is initially based at the Beacon Centre in Fulbourn. You will work alongside managers and clinical leads to help deliver a high-quality psychological therapies service within the Orthopaedic Psychology Service.

The role focuses on strengthening the psychological care offered to people referred into the service, improving awareness and engagement, and providing interventions under the guidance of a qualified psychologist. You will work independently within an agreed plan, while staying within the service’s policies, procedures, and professional framework.

In addition to direct support work, the post includes clinically related administrative tasks, audit activity, statistical data collection, and involvement in audit and research development within the orthopaedic service.

The role is intended to provide psychologically informed support to individuals experiencing distress connected to their healthcare experiences. The service places patients’ and families’ voices at the centre of learning, support, and service improvement.
