Role overview

An expanding finance department in Mullingar, County Westmeath is looking for an Accounts Payable Assistant to support day-to-day payables operations. The assignment begins as a 3-month contract and may convert into a permanent Accounts Payable role for the right person.

This opportunity suits someone with prior exposure to accounts payable, finance administration, purchase ledger work, invoice handling, or accounting support.

What you'll do

  • Handle supplier invoices with speed and accuracy.
  • Run the accounts payable workflow end to end, from invoice intake through to settlement.
  • Check supplier statements, spot mismatches, and work through any issues.
  • Prepare supplier payments and process them correctly.
  • Keep financial records and accounts payable files organised and up to date.
  • Support month-end finance and accounting tasks.
  • Deal with queries from suppliers and internal teams promptly and professionally.
  • Work alongside finance and operational colleagues to keep processes running smoothly.
  • Assist the wider finance function with admin and reporting duties as needed.

Experience and skills needed

  • Background in an Accounts Payable Assistant, Purchase Ledger Clerk, Finance Administrator, Accounts Assistant, or similar finance position.
  • Hands-on experience with data entry and invoice processing.
  • Strong focus on accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Good analytical thinking and troubleshooting ability.
  • Confidence in reconciling supplier accounts and resolving differences.
  • Clear communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Well-developed organisation and time management skills, with the ability to work to deadlines.
  • Competence using Microsoft Excel and the wider Microsoft Office suite.
  • Comfortable working on your own as well as within a team.
