Utility Worker

Overview

This role supports the operation and upkeep of water distribution and treatment systems, as well as wastewater collection and treatment systems, during an assigned shift.

Core Duties

• Carry out routine servicing and corrective upkeep for water and wastewater infrastructure.
• Wash and clean vehicles, heavy machinery, barscreens, comminutors, weirs, drying beds, digesters, pumps, tools, and other fixed or portable equipment.
• Inspect vehicles and equipment regularly and handle minor maintenance tasks such as oil changes and lubrication.
• Keep outdoor areas and buildings maintained by mowing grass, removing weeds and brush, trimming shrubs and trees, raking debris, and caring for lawns and ornamental plantings.
• Use vehicles, machinery, and tools to load, unload, transport, and distribute sand, gravel, soil, and waste materials, and to dig or backfill ditches and trenches.
• Assist operations and maintenance staff by carrying, holding, and moving materials, tools, and supplies.
• Track and record the amount of material hauled by contractors or applied to farmland.
• Follow verbal and written instructions accurately.
• Work cooperatively with coworkers and others encountered in the course of the job.
• Complete other assigned tasks as needed.

Required Qualifications

• A valid driver’s license is required.
• A high school diploma or GED is required.

Preferred Background

• Working knowledge of vehicle, equipment, and farm machinery operation and maintenance, including pumps and related systems used in water and wastewater environments.
• Comfort using hand tools and power tools commonly applied to the upkeep of vehicles, equipment, structures, and buildings.

Compensation

The annual base pay range for this position is $28,800 to $41,140, paid on an hourly basis depending on hours worked. Final pay within the range will be based on work location, job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
