About the Role
We are looking for upbeat, imaginative tutors in the New York City area who enjoy working with children and bringing lessons to life. This role centers on teaching chess to young learners through playful storytelling, games, and structured activities. Deep chess expertise is not necessary; strong communication, creativity, and a warm, service-oriented approach matter more.
The organization serves thousands of children each week and is growing quickly across multiple cities. Tutors may work in homes and schools, and they will use a ready-made curriculum that includes stories, puzzles, games, and lesson outlines to support instruction.
What You’ll Do
- Teach chess to children, including learners as young as 3 years old, using story-based lessons.
- Lead sessions in both home and school settings.
- Adapt lessons to the child’s needs and the flow of the day using provided materials.
- Build positive, professional relationships with parents, families, and school partners.
- Look for new tutoring opportunities and referrals in local communities, schools, and family networks.
- Stay highly responsive to emails, calls, meetings, and coordination with the Brooklyn home office.
What We’re Looking For
- Fun, energetic, and child-friendly personality.
- Strong sense of hospitality and genuine enjoyment in serving children.
- Entrepreneurial drive and self-motivated attitude.
- Excellent organization, accountability, and responsibility.
- Willingness to pursue referrals and new lesson opportunities.
- Prompt and reliable communication.
- Chess familiarity is helpful, but advanced knowledge is not required.
- Background in performing arts, teaching, or early childhood work is a plus.
- Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Successful background check required at the time of hire.
Schedule and Compensation
This is a part-time contractor role with after-school hours, weekday availability from Monday to Friday, and weekend availability as needed. Pay is listed at $40 per hour. Top tutors may earn around $2,100 per week or $8,400 per month. The role is based in New York City.
