Role overview

An established European engineering contractor is looking for a Senior CSA Design Engineer to join its senior design function in Dublin. The role supports large industrial and data centre developments across mainland Europe and works closely with the Design Manager to lead important design packages. You will coordinate across multiple disciplines to make sure all civil, structural and architectural components are compliant, integrated and prepared for construction.

This position offers the chance to work with a growing design-and-build business that is investing heavily in innovation, BIM, off-site manufacturing and high-quality project delivery. It also provides a clear path for professional growth.

Key responsibilities

  • Partner with engineers and construction managers to build detailed project plans and keep delivery on track.
  • Work alongside consultants, subcontractors, supervisors, planners, estimators, quantity surveyors and site teams involved in the project.
  • Engage with clients and other external stakeholders such as insurers and vendors when needed.
  • Prepare scope-of-work documents, task information deliverable plans and responsibility matrices for CSA activities.
  • Escalate design risks to planning, commercial and management teams and help reduce their effect.
  • Keep clear records of design changes, issues and other important activities, and report them to management when required.
  • Support Central Engineering and site teams with proactive input on construction and team matters.
  • Take part in design meetings and contribute ideas for improvement and optimisation.
  • Work on new design questions, changes and research with the wider team.
  • Support tenders and PCSA deliverables within the business unit.
  • Monitor construction to confirm it follows the approved design and schedule.
  • Help create design delivery schedules with the client, project manager, design team and consultants.
  • Manage design package deliverables and approvals so procurement can proceed once fully approved.
  • Check that design programmes match consultant capacity and construction/procurement needs.
  • Carry out site visits and report on progress and workmanship quality.
  • Follow information control processes, including RFIs and BIM360 workflows.
  • Ensure technical compliance across CSA project work.
  • Maintain awareness of client-specific and country-specific design standards.
  • Identify design-related risks and issues early and reduce their potential effect on construction.
  • Review design proposals from others for suitability and buildability.
  • Suggest value-engineering and off-site manufacturing opportunities.
  • Make sure material selection aligns with project needs, budget and QEHS requirements.
  • Prepare handover packs for the site team for packages under your responsibility.
  • Coordinate CSA interfaces with electrical and mechanical disciplines.
  • Review drawings, plans and quantities for calculation accuracy.
  • Manage and interpret contract design documents from the client or architect.
  • Embed sustainable practices into design and construction activities.
  • Assess environmental impacts and recommend improvements.
  • Produce reports and documentation needed for approvals and permits.
  • Keep project progress and change records accurate and up to date.
  • Maintain key project registers throughout the design phase, including procurement schedule, technical submittal register, drawing register, RFI log, deviation tracker, lessons learned log, interface/scope-gap trackers and design change tracker.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to construction teams.
  • Review and submit technical submittals.
  • Support recruitment activity for the Central Engineering team where appropriate.
  • Carry out additional engineering duties as required by the CSA Design Manager, Engineering Manager or the company.
  • Accept that the employer may vary normal duties to reflect changing business needs and working practices.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of post-graduate experience in industrial, pharmaceutical, life sciences or data centre environments.
  • Strong understanding of statutory consent procedures and building regulations processes.
  • Proven ability in design, technical and construction-related work.
  • Experience chairing meetings and coordinating team members.
  • Good working knowledge of structural design and analysis tools such as BIM and Revit.
