About Centrapay

Centrapay is rethinking how people pay, both in physical stores and through online channels. The company helps organisations launch digital assets and loyalty experiences that let customers spend and earn rewards in more places. Its partners include Coca-Cola, BNZ, and Farmlands, and it supports payment processing across New Zealand and Australia.

The payments platform is central to the business, and the team is also developing Payap, a consumer app designed to showcase the platform’s full capabilities.

Role overview

Centrapay is looking for a sharp and inquisitive risk professional to help strengthen trust across its payments platform and broader business. This is a practical, high-impact role focused on building controls, examining irregularities, improving reporting, and shaping how risk is managed as the company scales.

You will work closely with engineering, product, operations, and leadership, turning technical and operational details into clear risk and control insights. The role reports to the CRO and works closely with the Senior Risk & Change Manager.

Controls and assurance

  • Contribute to the ongoing development of Centrapay and Payap’s control environment.
  • Create and validate controls that address identified risk gaps.
  • Develop assurance methods that suit a fast-paced fintech environment.
  • Own control remediation work and recurring testing cycles.
  • Keep supporting evidence and compliance documentation organised and current.

Reporting and data

  • Produce reporting across risk, controls, and compliance areas.
  • Review anomalies, patterns, and gaps in available data.
  • Assist with regulatory and governance reporting obligations.
  • Help automate assurance and measurement activities where possible.

Compliance and accreditation

  • Support audits, accreditation work, and wider compliance programmes.
  • Coordinate evidence gathering across different teams.
  • Maintain registers, databases, and other compliance records.

Information security and third-party risk

  • Assist with security risk reviews for systems and vendors.
  • Monitor vulnerability remediation and related follow-up actions.
  • Facilitate risk workshops and keep risk documentation up to date.

What success looks like

  • The business uses a practical and repeatable controls-testing approach.
  • Risk and compliance reporting becomes more efficient and higher quality.
  • Automation increases across assurance and testing activities.
  • Strong working relationships are built with engineering, product, and operations.
  • You become a trusted source of insight for the Risk team and leadership.

Requirements

This role suits someone who can think critically, ask the right questions, investigate issues thoroughly, and improve risk management in a proportionate way. You should be comfortable working across both technical and non-technical groups and translating complex information into plain language.

  • At least 5 years of experience in risk management, information security, or technology risk.
  • Background in financial services or another regulated fintech environment.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving ability.
  • Capability to identify trends, patterns, and inconsistencies in data.
  • A mindset focused on process improvement.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Payments experience is not mandatory; training will be provided.
  • Bonus experience includes ISO 27001, NIST CSF, GRC or ISMS platforms, PCI DSS, CPS 234, open banking/CDR environments, or a relevant degree/certification such as CISA or CRISC.

Benefits

Centrapay offers a supportive environment with a strong focus on culture, employee feedback, and continuous improvement.

  • Flexible working arrangements.
  • City Works Depot office location in Auckland for those based there.
  • Six weeks of annual leave.
  • MacBook Pro provided.
  • Inclusive, open, and grounded workplace culture.
  • Regular in-person and online social activities.
  • Sick leave available from day one.
  • Free health insurance through Southern Cross.
  • Free life insurance.
  • Additional parental leave support.
  • Competitive compensation and opportunities for growth.
