What you will do

  • Examine building permits, drawings, and plans, then prepare field sheets and inspection sketches.
  • Inspect, measure, record, and confirm property details such as building size, quality, construction type, and building features for new builds, improvements, renovations, and replots.
  • Speak with property owners or their representatives, answer questions, and share information.
  • Keep detailed property records, including sketches, diagrams, notes, and related documentation.
  • Determine assessed property values and update system records accordingly.
  • Review data entries and outputs for accuracy.
  • Check property information for inquiries, appeals, and review programs.
  • Prepare information for assessment appeals and participate when required.
  • Carry out roll closing, year-end, and other scheduled processing tasks.
  • Help gather, verify, and analyze property sales data, assessment data, and market data.
  • Respond to customer questions and requests for information.
  • Research and provide information for administrative reports and appeals.
  • Suggest improvements to work processes and workflows.
  • Maintain filing systems according to branch procedures and corporate records management standards.
  • Search for information, enter and validate data, manipulate datasets, export results, and generate reports and lists from relevant systems and applications.

What you need

  • A two-year post-secondary diploma or a bachelor's degree in economics or commerce, along with either the first or second level of the Appraisal Institute of Canada courses, or completion of a two-year post-secondary Real Property Assessment Certificate Program.
  • A valid Class 5 driver's licence.
  • At least five years of experience in property assessment or a mass appraisal setting.
