Role overview
The Project Director will lead utility-scale, ground-mounted solar projects through the full delivery cycle, from early-stage support and execution to commissioning and final handover. This position is responsible for setting direction, coordinating across functions, and ensuring that multiple projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and to the required quality standards.
The role serves as the top authority for project execution and is accountable for governance, risk management, stakeholder coordination, and overall delivery performance across a portfolio of concurrent projects.

Experience needed: 25+ years
Qualification: BE/BTech in Electrical, Mechanical, or Civil Engineering; an MBA/PGDM in Project Management is preferred
Mandatory requirement: Prior experience managing multiple projects

Key responsibilities
Leadership and governance
- Direct the execution of several ground-mounted solar projects simultaneously.
- Set the overall execution approach and governance structure.
- Put in place clear decision-making and escalation paths.
- Ensure project work stays aligned with company goals and policies.
- Encourage accountability, safety, and high performance throughout the team.
Portfolio and delivery oversight
- Supervise the complete project lifecycle from mobilization to handover.
- Track master schedules, budgets, and manpower/resource plans.
- Monitor compliance with contract milestones and performance KPIs.
- Step in on critical path issues and sanction recovery actions when needed.
- Review and sign off on Project Execution Plans (PEPs).
Cross-functional coordination
- Work closely with Engineering, Procurement, Construction, Logistics, Finance, HSE, QA/QC, and O&M teams.
- Support seamless coordination between departments.
- Remove bottlenecks that affect execution progress.
- Keep departmental priorities aligned with project timelines.
Commercial and contractual control
- Oversee key contracts and commercial arrangements.
- Guide decisions related to claims, variations, and extension of time requests.
- Strengthen contract administration practices.
- Support negotiations and dispute resolution efforts.
Financial and cost management
- Monitor budgets, cash flows, and forecasts across projects.
- Drive cost efficiency without affecting quality or safety.
- Review cost-to-complete positions and financial risk exposure.
- Approve major project-related financial decisions.
Stakeholder engagement
- Represent the project execution function before clients, investors, and strategic partners.
- Engage with government agencies, utilities, and regulators as required.
- Handle land-related and community-related sensitivities carefully.
- Lead executive review forums and steering committee meetings.
Health, safety, and environment
- Promote a zero-harm safety mindset.
- Ensure compliance with all statutory and company HSE standards.
- Review safety results and audit observations.
- Drive corrective and preventive actions to improve outcomes.
Quality assurance
- Ensure QA/QC systems are properly implemented.
- Review quality indicators and non-conformance trends.
- Continuously improve the quality of execution.
Commissioning and handover
- Oversee testing, commissioning, and grid synchronization activities.
- Ensure performance guarantees are met before closure.
- Approve final handover documentation and project closure.
Expected deliverables
- Portfolio dashboards covering schedule, cost, risk, and HSE status.
- Executive MIS and steering committee reports.
- Approved execution strategies and recovery plans.
- Successful commissioning and handover of projects.
- Risk registers and mitigation plans.
