Role overview
NRG Health & Fitness, a long-established health and fitness operator in Ireland with more than 20 years in the market, is looking for a driven and experienced General Manager to run the NRG Knocknacarra club in Galway. This is a hands-on, on-site leadership role responsible for the overall performance, smooth daily running, and customer experience of the club.
The successful candidate will help create a safe, efficient, welcoming, and service-led environment while supporting growth in memberships, fitness offerings, and team capability. The role also involves close collaboration with company leadership on business and marketing direction.
Key responsibilities
- Assume complete responsibility for the club’s day-to-day operations.
- Maintain strict standards for health and safety, hygiene, and overall cleanliness.
- Lead by example, setting the tone for professionalism and strong customer service across the team.
- Manage questions, concerns, complaints, and general feedback from members and guests in an effective manner.
- Oversee stock control, purchasing, ordering, and budget management.
- Monitor cash processes and ensure PCI compliance is followed.
- Work toward sales and membership growth objectives.
- Partner with the directors on marketing initiatives and campaign planning.
- Build a team culture centered on collaboration, communication, and accountability.
- Recruit, coach, schedule, and performance-manage staff based on business requirements.
- Deliver selected fitness classes and maintain an active, visible presence on the gym floor.
- Lead operational focus areas such as health and safety, audit preparation, maintenance, administration, and training.
Candidate profile
The ideal applicant will bring prior general management or senior leadership experience from a fitness, gym, or leisure setting. A recognised fitness instructor qualification is required, such as NCEF, ITEC, NCEHS, or an equivalent credential.
Experience in teaching fitness classes and personal training is expected. The role also requires solid computer skills, particularly with Microsoft Office, as well as familiarity with leisure CRM and membership systems such as Gym Sales or Perfect Gym. Strong leadership, problem-solving, and people skills are essential.
