Role overview

Trillium Health Partners is seeking a permanent full-time Director, Strategic Design & Implementation to join its AI & Digital Planning department. This leadership role reports to the Chief AI & Digital Planning Officer and focuses on shaping and delivering user-centered digital, AI, and care-model solutions that improve outcomes for clinicians, staff, patients, families, caregivers, and the broader community.

The organization is one of Canada’s largest community-based teaching hospitals, serving Mississauga, West Toronto, and nearby communities across multiple sites. Its long-term direction, Plan to 2030, is centered on improving health and well-being rather than only treating illness. In support of that vision, the hospital is advancing Trillium HealthWorks, a major infrastructure renewal initiative that includes the future Peter Gilgan Mississauga Hospital, Ontario’s first hospital dedicated to women’s and children’s health at the Shah Family Hospital for Women and Children, and the expansion of the Queensway Health Centre into The Gilgan Family Queensway Health Centre.

What you will do

  • Advance major organizational priorities, including Trillium HealthWorks, by applying design thinking, co-design, and implementation science to create meaningful digital, AI, and innovative solutions.
  • Lead complex initiatives from planning through delivery using rapid-cycle design and implementation methods to test, improve, and expand effective solutions.
  • Build and guide cross-functional, multidisciplinary teams to deliver clinical and operational results.
  • Set up strong performance measures and regularly demonstrate the impact of digitally enabled care models and AI-supported operations.
  • Use systems design and co-design approaches to address underlying causes of health care challenges, not only surface-level issues.
  • Strengthen the organization’s digital transformation and continuous improvement capability by embedding innovation, design, and implementation practices.
  • Develop and maintain trusted relationships with key stakeholders and regularly engage with individuals and groups to uncover needs and opportunities for change.
  • Facilitate discussions with stakeholders at all levels, including executive leadership, through co-creation and implementation science methods so solutions are developed with users.
  • Identify, organize, and mobilize cross-functional teams to move initiatives ahead.
  • Monitor risks closely and resolve or escalate delivery and deployment issues in a timely manner.
  • Drive continuous improvement in methods, systems, and workflows to enhance customer satisfaction and user experience.
  • Create change management plans that support adoption and long-term reinforcement of digital and AI projects.
  • Coach sponsors, stakeholders, and project teams to strengthen design thinking, change management, and implementation capability.
  • Balance systems thinking, planning, and execution while building strong partnerships across the organization.
  • Lead in a way that reflects the organization’s values of compassion, excellence, and courage, while contributing to an exceptional patient experience.
  • Promote equity and inclusive design as a core expectation for the team.
  • Take on other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and experience

  • A bachelor’s degree in design or a closely related discipline is required.
  • A master’s degree in design, business administration, or a related field is preferred.
  • Deep practical experience with design thinking, co-design, human factors, and change management methods.
  • 8 to 10 years of progressive leadership experience in health care solution delivery, transformation, digital innovation, knowledge translation, implementation science, or complex project delivery.
  • Strong presentation ability, including comfort speaking with executive, clinical, operational, leadership, and public audiences.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to translate complex ideas into clear messages and compelling visuals.
  • Highly developed organization, planning, and time-management skills, with the ability to manage priorities independently.
  • Proven interpersonal and change leadership skills, including the ability to influence others and build credibility at all levels.
  • Ability to contribute both collaboratively and independently to move work forward.
  • Strong critical thinking and strategic thinking capability.
  • A systems-oriented mindset with the ability to work through ambiguity and build productive relationships across clinical and administrative functions.
  • Positive, creative, and motivating leadership style with a record of guiding complex change in a fast-paced environment.
