Role overview
The NHS Business Services Authority is looking for a Chief Strategy Officer to join its executive leadership team. This is a senior, high-impact position responsible for helping shape the organisation’s direction and delivering strategy across an organisation that serves millions of people every day.
Reporting to the Chief Executive, the role calls for leadership in strategy, business growth, performance, assurance, and transformation. The successful candidate will advise the CEO and Board, bring strong commercial judgment, and help drive long-term organisational success.
The position also involves building strategic relationships across government, the NHS, and wider stakeholder groups, while strengthening confidence in performance through robust risk and assurance practices. A customer-focused and innovative leadership style is essential, along with the ability to develop capability and inspire high-performing teams.
Location
The role can be based in Leeds, Newcastle, or Eastbourne, with regular travel to Newcastle.
Key accountabilities
- Share executive responsibility for shaping the organisation’s strategic direction and contributing to its vision, strategic plan, and annual business plan.
- Create and put in place strategies that protect and enhance NHSBSA’s reputation with key stakeholders.
- Lead a varied directorate to advance both the organisation’s priorities and broader healthcare objectives in response to changing NHS needs.
- Own the transformation agenda by spotting, assessing, and ranking opportunities for innovative change.
- Build and deliver a customer strategy that reflects user needs across NHSBSA services and clearly communicates the customer proposition.
- Work with the Executive and Non-Executive Board to develop, finalise, and publish the NHSBSA strategy, business plan, and annual report, including a long-term business plan.
- Partner with business leaders and teams to identify strategic opportunities, convert them into practical plans, and ensure effective execution.
