Role Overview
McGraw Hill is seeking a K-12 Academic Coach to help teachers and district leaders strengthen instructional quality, align curriculum, and apply research-backed teaching practices. The position is designed to improve educator effectiveness and student achievement through coaching, planning, and collaboration across schools.
The company develops digital and print learning resources used by students and educators from kindergarten through graduate school, with a focus on making learning more effective and helping teachers use their time more efficiently. This is a hybrid opportunity open only to candidates authorized to work for any employer in the United States. Applicants must live in California and be willing to travel 50% to 75% of the time.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver one-on-one coaching to teachers on instructional methods, classroom management, and adapting instruction for varied learner needs.
- Lead professional learning sessions that support district priorities and align with state academic standards.
- Visit classrooms, evaluate instruction, and provide actionable feedback that helps strengthen teaching practices.
- Guide educators in using technology, data-informed instruction, and modern teaching tools effectively.
- Support instructional planning for students who need intervention as well as those who need enrichment.
- Partner with district leadership on curriculum design, instructional policies, assessment approaches, and implementation plans.
- Review district-level data to spot patterns, learning gaps, and opportunities to improve teaching and learning.
- Help organize and facilitate PLCs and other collaborative professional learning structures across the district.
- Advise district administrators on school improvement planning and execution.
- Serve as a connector between schools, district leaders, and outside partners such as community groups or education consultants.
- Share updates, progress, and outcomes with stakeholders including families, school boards, and community members.
- Promote the need for tools, support, and resources that can improve teacher effectiveness and student success.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree is required.
- Master’s degree in Education, Curriculum & Instruction, or a related discipline is preferred.
- Valid teaching certification and at least 5 years of substantial K-12 education experience are needed.
- Background in curriculum development, instructional coaching, and assessment practices.
- Strong leadership, communication, and relationship-building skills.
- Comfort using educational technology, data analysis tools, and professional development platforms.
- Ability to earn trust and work collaboratively with teachers, administrators, and other stakeholders.
- Working knowledge of state and national standards such as Common Core or equivalent frameworks.
- Experience creating and delivering professional development programs.
- Ability to juggle multiple priorities and adjust to changing district requirements.
- Must be able to travel 50% to 75% of the time.
Compensation and Benefits
The annual base salary for this role is expected to fall between $70,304 and $90,000, depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and location.
Medical and other benefits may also be available, depending on the position offered.
