Position details

Correctional Officers work directly with prisoners at the Mount Gambier facility and are involved in day-to-day supervision, rehabilitation support, security checks, and reporting. The training provided covers standard operating procedures, self-defence, radio use, report writing, first aid and CPR, communication, incident response, x-ray and ion scan screening, fire training, and related duties.

Key duties

• Support prisoner case management and monitor rehabilitation activities
• Carry out daily searches and counts
• Perform security patrols across the facility
• Prepare case notes and formal reports
• Help maintain a safe, secure, and orderly environment

Roster and pay

• Training rate: $32.47 per hour
• First year after training: $39.98 per hour, equivalent to $79,899 per year
• Once fully accredited: $43.24 per hour, equivalent to $81,965 per year
• Shifts are 12.5 hours long
• Work pattern includes weekdays, nights, weekends, and public holidays

Who should apply

No background in corrections and no formal qualifications are required. The employer is seeking candidates with practical life experience, strong communication, and conflict resolution skills. Applicants must be ready for a rotating 24/7 roster and able to start at the end of July 2026.

Interview and training timeline
