Position details
Correctional Officers work directly with prisoners at the Mount Gambier facility and are involved in day-to-day supervision, rehabilitation support, security checks, and reporting. The training provided covers standard operating procedures, self-defence, radio use, report writing, first aid and CPR, communication, incident response, x-ray and ion scan screening, fire training, and related duties.
Key duties
- Support prisoner case management and monitor rehabilitation activities
- Carry out daily searches and counts
- Perform security patrols across the facility
- Prepare case notes and formal reports
- Help maintain a safe, secure, and orderly environment
Roster and pay
- Training rate: $32.47 per hour
- First year after training: $39.98 per hour, equivalent to $79,899 per year
- Once fully accredited: $43.24 per hour, equivalent to $81,965 per year
- Shifts are 12.5 hours long
- Work pattern includes weekdays, nights, weekends, and public holidays
Who should apply

Interview and training timeline
