Senior Software Engineer

Redgate builds straightforward software that helps database professionals get more value from every database they manage. Its products address complex challenges across the database DevOps lifecycle, supporting IT leaders, developers, and operations teams with greater efficiency, fewer mistakes, and stronger protection for business-critical data. This position sits within a small cross-functional product team that usually includes a Tech Lead, Lead Software Engineer, Product Designer, Product Manager, and four to five software engineers. You will also have support from a Group Engineering Manager covering delivery, people, and process across the wider group, plus an architect who gives product-level technical guidance and a coaching function to help remove blockers.

The role focuses on Redgate Monitor, the company’s flagship monitoring product. This mature, high-impact solution helps organisations monitor, diagnose, and optimise database environments proactively. In this team, you will help shape architectural direction, improve performance, and deliver features that impact thousands of customers around the world.

What you'll do

• Design, develop, and test high-quality software with strong attention to scalability, resilience, and security.
• Support the team through difficult design and implementation decisions, including ownership of the most complex and unclear technical problems.
• Produce well-tested code and maintain high standards for code quality, software design, and testing discipline.
• Review your own work and that of other engineers, giving clear and practical feedback on code, design, and behaviour.
• Work closely with the team to keep the product robust and of a high standard.
• Partner with user experience specialists to shape, build, and refine the product experience.
• Collaborate with the team to ensure strong technical documentation and accurate API specifications.
• Spot tools and methods that can improve engineering practice, then share them across Redgate and beyond.
• Build constructive relationships with stakeholders and help create a positive working environment.
• Understand how the team’s product or systems solve customer problems and use that insight to prioritise engineering work that delivers value.
• Own major projects end to end, turning strategic plans into reliable delivery and measurable business value.
• Engage with users to understand real-world product usage and bring customer empathy into engineering decisions.

Alongside that, you’ll be expected to mentor and coach others, share knowledge through discussion, documentation, and technical presentations, and help create a learning-focused and psychologically safe environment.

Essential skills and experience

• Strong expertise in modern .NET and C#.
• Ability to design and build systems that are scalable, resilient, and secure, while weighing trade-offs and future impact.
• A preference for simple, maintainable code and products.
• Experience with unit testing, code reviews, and regular communication to achieve the best outcome.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with close attention to detail.
• Comfort working collaboratively and building positive team relationships.
• Willingness to work across the product and learn new technologies as needed.
• Strong software design capability.
• Experience in an agile development environment.
• Interest in working with customers to build better products.
• A continuous-improvement mindset and the ability to encourage growth within the team.

Desirable experience

• Experience with SQL Server, PostgreSQL, or Oracle.
• Experience building applications with React.
• Familiarity with Agile, Lean, and Continuous Delivery practices, including Continuous Integration, TDD, BDD, and Infrastructure as Code.
