Senior Production Manager

Role overview

A biotechnology organisation in Cork is looking for a seasoned Senior Production Manager to join its senior leadership group. This position carries broad accountability for manufacturing activity across the site, spanning fermentation operations (upstream and downstream), powder blending, spray drying, liquid formulation, and coordination with external toll manufacturing partners.

The role is central to strengthening operational performance and building a culture that prioritises safety, quality, service, cost control, sustainability, continuous improvement, and strong employee engagement.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee all production and manufacturing teams across the site.
• Promote and embed a workplace culture built on safety first and consistent quality standards.
• Meet operational targets related to safety, quality, service, cost, and productivity.
• Create and execute the site’s operational plan in line with wider business goals.
• Lead Lean, continuous improvement, and cost-reduction efforts.
• Guide capability building, succession planning, and performance management across the team.
• Own audits, investigations, compliance matters, and follow-up corrective actions.
• Review production results and introduce improvements where needed.
• Work closely with cross-functional teams and contribute to major site initiatives.

Candidate profile

• Brings 5 to 10 years of experience in a senior manufacturing or operations leadership position.
• Has a strong background in leading and developing sizeable teams within a high-output manufacturing setting.
• Has worked in biotechnology, fermentation, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, or food manufacturing.
• Demonstrates a solid record of delivering Lean Manufacturing, continuous improvement, and operational excellence outcomes.
• Communicates clearly, leads effectively, and approaches problems with strong analytical thinking.
• Understands health and safety standards as well as quality compliance requirements.
• Works in a structured, results-focused way and can lead organisational change successfully.
