About the Role
This position sits within a global professional services environment where transport engineering contributes directly to major projects and community outcomes. The role is centered on transport infrastructure, combining technical delivery, client-facing consultancy, project leadership, and business development support.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver transport engineering and planning consultancy, with emphasis on analysis, written reporting, design, and supervision.
- Actively contribute to the transport infrastructure team’s success and support delivery of its business objectives.
- Provide advanced engineering guidance to colleagues, project managers, and clients to improve quality, efficiency, and value.
- Take a leadership role on project teams as a Project Manager or Technical Lead, while ensuring internal project management processes are followed.
- Champion technical excellence through rigorous review practices and by leading important or strategic project work.
- Oversee transport engineering inputs on projects, including technical reviews, verifications, and audits in line with company procedures.
- Help projects finish on schedule, within budget, and to the expected standard, while supporting profitability targets.
- Plan and define project scope carefully, including required inputs, outputs, and verification steps.
- Complete project administration such as progress updates and budget tracking.
- Carry out verification work and technical checks on projects and task outputs.
- Make sure designs, drawings, strategies, and recommendations meet intended outcomes and that reports and other deliverables are properly prepared and monitored.
- Prepare fee estimates and negotiate service fees with clients so assignments remain commercially viable.
- Support business development through client meetings and events under the direction of client relationship managers.
- Work with transport teams across New Zealand and globally to support project delivery and business growth where needed.
Requirements
- At least 8 years of professional experience in transportation infrastructure, transport engineering, and planning.
- A relevant tertiary qualification in the discipline.
- Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) status or an equivalent professional credential.
- At least WSP PMAF Level 2 accreditation, or an equivalent standard.
- Minimum 5 years of experience leading projects in the discipline.
- Demonstrated ability to grow business by spotting opportunities, increasing revenue or profit, and expanding market reach.
