Non-QM Underwriter

Role Overview

Paramount Residential Mortgage Group is seeking a Non-QM Underwriter to carefully assess non-qualified mortgage loans in line with company standards and investor requirements. This position focuses on reviewing complex loan files, verifying documentation, and making sound underwriting decisions for residential mortgage transactions.

What You’ll Do

• Review complete loan files to confirm all open issues are resolved and the file is ready for decisioning.
• Analyze borrower income, expenses, assets, credit reports, and property values for non-QM loan requests.
• Assess the full credit package and collateral to ensure the loan meets acceptable investment-quality standards.
• Carry out manual underwriting and apply detailed knowledge of multiple loan programs.
• Perform appraisal reviews to confirm collateral standards are met.
• Verify the accuracy of calculations and ensure data in the file is reliable and consistent.
• Prepare required underwriting worksheets using the FastTrac 360 Resource Center.
• Communicate loan decisions to borrowers, investors, escrow teams, processors, and other relevant parties both verbally and in writing.
• Act as a guideline resource for processors handling file-specific questions.
• Escalate loans that exceed delegated authority to the underwriting manager with a clear recommendation.
• Maintain underwriting logs and submit monthly activity reports to the underwriting manager.
• Meet productivity expectations, including a 48-hour underwriting turnaround and 24-hour condition-clearance turnaround.
• Aim to complete two loan decisions per day within the assigned timeline.
• Respond promptly to post-closing reviews and audit requests.
• Carry out other underwriting or operations duties as assigned.

Requirements

• At least five years of recent non-QM mortgage underwriting experience.
• Working knowledge of underwriting standards, including FNMA, FHLMC, and non-QM investor guidelines.
• Ability to analyze and calculate complex personal and business financials, including tax profiles.
• Experience using Encompass loan origination software for 5+ years.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Comfort working in a fast-moving, team-based environment.
• Strong interpersonal and business relationship-building skills.
• High attention to detail.
• Technically proficient with MS Windows-based software.
• High school diploma.

This role requires regular use of office equipment such as computers, copiers, and fax machines. The work involves sitting for long periods, with hearing and vision expected to be within normal ranges. Travel is not required.

Salary range: USD 70,000 to USD 105,000 per year.
