Medical Coding Specialist EM LAB

Role Overview

This position focuses on accurate medical coding for laboratory and pathology-related records. The role requires careful review of patient documentation, test results, and clinical reports to assign correct codes and support compliant billing practices.

Responsibilities

• Examine patient charts, laboratory findings, and medical documentation in detail to identify the correct diagnoses and procedure codes.
• Assign CPT, ICD-10-CM/PCS, and HCPCS Level II codes in line with current coding standards and regulatory requirements.
• Work with doctors and other healthcare professionals to clarify inconsistencies and maintain coding accuracy for billing purposes.
• Protect sensitive patient information and follow HIPAA rules at all stages of the coding workflow.

Requirements

• Between 1 and 3 years of hands-on experience in clinical pathology or surgical pathology coding.
• Solid knowledge of anatomy, physiology, medical vocabulary, and laboratory testing processes.
• Ability to work with electronic health record systems such as Epic or similar EHR platforms.
• Certification as a CPC or an equivalent professional coding credential is required.
