This position offers the chance to lead health, safety and environment outcomes at a major aluminium site in Invercargill, New Zealand. The role is focused on lifting safety performance, strengthening culture, and supporting operational leaders across a demanding industrial setting. What the role involves
You will be responsible for leading HSE performance across your area of accountability, making sure systems, processes and programs are in place to control risk, improve capability and support ongoing improvement. Working with senior leadership, you will help shape the safety agenda, influence business decisions and guide a team to embed standards that reflect the organisation’s values.
Key responsibilities
- Drive health, safety and environmental outcomes across the operational area.
- Oversee the design and execution of HSE systems, procedures and programs.
- Strengthen risk management and ensure compliance with relevant standards and legislation.
- Work with senior leaders and operational teams to build a strong safety culture.
- Review incidents, identify patterns and put practical improvements in place.
- Lead, develop and coach team members to improve HSE capability.
- Build trusted working relationships with stakeholders at all levels.
- Promote continuous improvement, operational excellence and a proactive approach to safety.
Candidate profile
The ideal candidate will have solid experience leading HSE in complex industrial or operational environments, along with strong knowledge of safety and environmental legal requirements. You should be comfortable creating and implementing policies and procedures, investigating incidents, and turning findings into preventative action. Strong leadership, stakeholder management and coaching ability are important, as is a mindset focused on improvement and risk control.
Experience and skills needed
Success in this role requires the ability to influence across functions, engage people at different levels, and lead a team through change. You should bring a practical understanding of safety systems, incident analysis, compliance management and workplace risk reduction, together with the confidence to support a high-performance culture.
