Interdisciplinary Engineer / Architect Technical Lead

What You'll Do

• Act as the technical lead for projects, handling scope, schedule, resources, and quality while keeping work aligned with policy and regulatory requirements.
• Guide project execution from planning through delivery, advise on technical and management issues, and track completion status.
• Develop scopes of work, collect customer needs, coordinate with subject-matter specialists, validate technical soundness, and review cost estimates.
• Oversee in-house design work for correctness, schedule adherence, and compliance, while coordinating with clients and monitoring funding.
• Run or contribute to progress meetings and review design submittals to confirm completeness and consistency.
• Tackle complex project-management and engineering challenges, including scope adjustments, stakeholder coordination, scheduling conflicts, and contract-related issues.
• Offer engineering guidance across divisions and agencies, help resolve technical disputes, and review the work of less experienced technical leads.

Qualification Requirements

Basic Education Path - Engineer

• A bachelor's degree or higher in engineering from an engineering school with at least one ABET-accredited program, or a program including calculus plus advanced coursework in five of seven core engineering science areas.
• Alternatively, a combination of education and experience that provides a strong foundation in physical and mathematical sciences and applied engineering principles.
• Acceptable alternatives under the combination route include current EI/EIT/PE registration, passing the FE exam or another qualifying written test, at least 60 semester hours in physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences, or a related scientific degree paired with at least one year of professional engineering experience under supervision.

Basic Education Path - Architect

• A bachelor's degree or higher in architecture, or a related program with 60 semester hours in architecture-related coursework, including architectural design, structural technology, materials and construction methods, and environmental control systems.
• Alternatively, a combination of education and experience that demonstrates professional architectural knowledge and capability.
• Acceptable alternatives include an architectural engineering curriculum with equivalent preparation, or experience in an architect's office or architectural work at the rate of one year per missing year of architecture study; if no college courses are present, five years of such experience is required.

Specialized Experience

• You must have one year of specialized experience at the GS-12 level or equivalent, including technical and administrative management of in-house and/or architect-engineer contractor-designed projects for military construction, maintenance, alteration, and repair.
• A current Professional Engineer or Registered Architect license is strongly preferred.
