Overview

First Student is looking for a Dispatcher in Bowmanville, Ontario. This role is central to safe, dependable transportation and strong customer service. The dispatcher coordinates bus movement, helps keep routes on schedule, and supports drivers and monitors with day-to-day guidance.

What the role involves

• Managing bus dispatching activities and monitoring route timing
• Keeping bus schedules organized and making sure trips run on time
• Coaching and advising drivers and monitors on front-line matters
• Managing a high volume of calls and radio communication
• Receiving scheduling issues and driver concerns and escalating them to the Operations Supervisor or Contract Manager
• Acting as the main communication point for a key contracted customer
• Supporting charter bookings, billing tasks, or driver payroll when needed
• Finding solutions for pick-up and drop-off problems
• Stepping in with backup driving duties or other clerical work as required
• Completing assigned special projects
• Helping oversee daily operational activities

Experience and qualifications

• 3 to 5 years of relevant experience
• High school diploma or an equivalent qualification
• Working knowledge of radio dispatch equipment
• Strong verbal communication and customer service ability
• Comfort working under deadlines and time pressure
• Background in terminal operations, dispatching, or driving preferred
• Computer proficiency
