About the Company
Tata Projects, part of the Tata Group, is a major EPC organization in India with a strong focus on sustainability and technology-led delivery. The company executes large-scale urban and industrial infrastructure assignments across areas such as energy, power, data centers, refineries, petrochemical facilities, and manufacturing plants. Its portfolio also spans clean energy transition work, including refineries, green fuels, transportation, power generation, chemical plants, water systems, and advanced technology facilities.
Role Overview
This position is for an experienced design leader who will oversee engineering, design, and coordination of critical utility and process support systems. The scope includes Boilers-Steam, Compressed Clean Dry Air (CDA), Process Vacuum, Process Exhaust, Fuel Supply System (HSD tank, pump and controls), Heat Exchangers, Pumps, Tanks, and Elevators. The role carries responsibility for ensuring that all designs meet performance, safety, statutory, regulatory, and sustainability expectations for new construction projects.
Key Responsibilities
The selected professional will function as the discipline lead at site and coordinate closely with the head, regional, or site office discipline lead. This person will guide engineers, designers, and modelers through all project stages, while also mentoring assistants and trainees to strengthen team capability.
The role requires strong command over global and local standards, including ASME, ANSI, NFPA, ISO, BS, IS, and other applicable codes. The incumbent must apply technical depth to support design development and execution.
Core engineering work will include preparing and checking design calculations, PFDs, and P&IDs, selecting equipment, developing datasheets, BOQs, and cost estimates, and creating equipment and piping layouts. The position also involves reviewing drawings, specifications, and calculations to confirm accuracy, buildability, and code compliance.
Close coordination is expected with multidisciplinary teams such as Plant Engineering, Process, Civil & Structural, Electrical, Piping, Fire Protection, ELV, I&C, Plumbing & Sanitary, Planning, and Procurement. The role also includes ensuring effective integration of Cleanroom and HVAC interfaces across the project.
Stakeholder management is an important part of the job, including engagement with clients, consultants, third-party vendors, and other project partners. The person will also oversee external consultants and contractors to help deliver the work on time and within budget. Procurement support will involve RFQs, technical clarifications, technical bid analysis, and review/approval of vendor documents.
The role further includes design reviews, value engineering, and constructability studies, along with 3D model reviews, safety checks, quality audits, and mock-up reviews with clients and consultants.
During construction, commissioning, and handover, the incumbent will provide technical support and work with operations and maintenance teams to ensure systems are practical and maintainable.
Training and capability building are also part of the mandate. The person will coach team members, improve discipline knowledge, and encourage continuous learning across the group.
Experience and Education
The position calls for 15 to 20 years of experience in engineering, design, and management of utility systems, ideally within semiconductor, pharmaceutical, advanced manufacturing, chemical, or industrial environments. A B.Tech or B.E. in Mechanical Engineering is required.
