About the role
ALS is looking for a dependable van driver to work from the Chandlers Ford site, supporting sample collections from customer premises and ALS drop-off points. The position suits someone who is dependable, organised, able to juggle multiple tasks, and comfortable working closely with others.
You will operate a medium wheelbase van, collecting it at the start of your shift and returning it at the end. The role follows a Monday to Friday schedule from 11:00 to 19:30 and is offered as a full-time permanent position.
The hourly rate is £13.45, along with a £2,000 location allowance. The closing date for applications is Tuesday 30 June 2026. The hiring manager is Shaun Millington.
Key duties
- Drive safely and courteously at all times, representing the organisation positively on the road.
- Make sure the vehicle’s refrigerated compartment stays within the required temperature range throughout the day.
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with customers and ALS colleagues.
- Remain adaptable to changes in collection plans, including extra requests and traffic-related delays.
- Complete all paperwork accurately, including van temperature logs and sample consignment records.
- Carry out daily vehicle checks, light maintenance such as topping up fluids, and keep the van clean.
- Report customer concerns or any other relevant issues to the Transport Manager.
What you need
The ideal candidate will have a clean driving history and a current, valid driving licence. You should already have experience driving medium wheelbase vans and understand UK road networks well.
Strong communication, flexibility, reliability, and a proactive approach are essential. The role also requires someone who can stay calm under pressure, meet tight deadlines, make sensible decisions from the information provided, and use initiative when needed.
You should be able to provide your own navigation device, although one can be supplied if required.
