About the role
Invercargill City Council is looking for a permanent full-time Contract Technician focused on Three Waters work. This is a Monday to Friday position, with working hours from 8:00am to 5:00pm. Key responsibilities
- Help deliver and track the performance of maintenance and capital works contracts across Three Waters.
- Carry out site visits, assess contractor performance, and check that quality and compliance expectations are being met.
- Manage contract administration tasks such as handling NZS 3910 and NZS 3917 processes, claims, variations, and record-keeping.
- Look into customer issues, service requests, and contractor-related performance concerns, then work toward practical resolutions.
- Support health, safety, and risk controls across all contract-related activities.
What you will need
- A tertiary qualification in Civil Engineering or a closely related discipline.
- A full New Zealand driver licence.
- At least 3 years of experience in infrastructure or civil engineering, preferably in Three Waters.
- Working knowledge of contract management, including NZS 3910 and NZS 3917.
- Strong skills in communication, relationship building, and problem-solving.
- The ability to juggle priorities, work with limited supervision, and stay focused on customer needs.

The role is based in Invercargill, Southland, New Zealand. Waihōpai Invercargill is the southernmost city in New Zealand and is known for its green open spaces, including Queens Park, long summer daylight hours, local history, nearby nature reserves, Ōreti Beach, the Waihōpai River, and a lively food, arts, and entertainment scene. The city’s wide, gridded streets make commuting easy, with work typically no more than a 10-minute drive away.
