Role overview

ICICI Lombard is looking for a Senior Data Scientist to join its Data Science & Analytics team in Mumbai. This full-time position is suited for someone with 2 to 6 years of experience who can lead data science initiatives from problem framing through deployment and ongoing model monitoring. The role requires a strong grasp of statistics, machine learning, and Generative AI, along with the ability to guide junior colleagues and deliver measurable business outcomes.

Key responsibilities

• Own data science assignments end to end, starting with research and experimentation and continuing through deployment, monitoring, and continuous improvement.
• Develop, tune, and apply advanced statistical and machine learning models to address complex business challenges.
• Design and implement LLM and Generative AI solutions, including prompt engineering, Retrieval-Augmented Generation workflows, and parameter-efficient fine-tuning for business use cases.
• Work closely with product, engineering, and business teams to convert ambiguous problems into practical data science solutions and explain findings to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Mentor junior data scientists and analysts and help strengthen a culture of learning and technical quality.
• Partner with data engineering teams to build scalable data models and automated ML pipelines using MLOps practices and cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure.
• Create and maintain model monitoring systems to measure performance and improve deployed solutions.

Technical and professional requirements

• Strong grounding in supervised and unsupervised machine learning, evaluation methods, and feature engineering.
• Hands-on experience with model building, experimentation, and performance optimization.
• Working knowledge of LLM architecture, prompt design, RAG, fine-tuning approaches, and LLM evaluation and monitoring.
• Exposure to vector databases.
• At least one meaningful real-world implementation involving LLM or Generative AI.
• Programming ability in Python, R, and SQL for analytics and model development.
• Experience working with cloud environments such as AWS, GCP, or Azure.
• Ability to integrate APIs and orchestrate scalable solutions.
• Familiarity with MLOps tooling such as MLflow, Docker, or Kubernetes for CI/CD workflows.
• Strong analytical reasoning and structured problem-solving skills.
• Clear communication, stakeholder management, and collaboration skills.
• Ability to perform in a fast-moving, team-oriented environment and influence outcomes effectively.
• High sense of ownership and focus on delivering business impact.

Education

A bachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, or Mathematics is preferred. Candidates with equivalent industry experience and strong hands-on contributions may also be considered.
